Hi all,

some of you may recognise my nickname and perhaps are aware of my story. I had two ectopic pregnancies, both after IVF and lost both tubes.

I was very upset the first time, I didn't even consider the possibility that such a thing could happen with IVF, but I was utterly devastated the second time around.
I quickly realised that there isn't much information/support at all for EP, you may find something in the general miscarriage leaflet that you are given at the hospital but the emotions associated with EP are very different from a "simpler" miscarriage. There is surgery or chemotherapy. There is the fear for your life (EP are life threatening conditions). There is the reduced or complete loss of fertility (that wasn't my case as I was already doing IVF). There is the need to understand what is wrong with your tubes and the knowledge at some point that your risk of it happening again are much higher than the first time around.

I was lucky enough to have been put in contact with other girls who have been through the same ordeal (although none of them after IVF) and together we have set up a charity association which we hope to launch in September.

For the moment we have a Face Book page (Ectopic Pregnancy Ireland) and we are working at a website.
Our first fund raising will be in connection with the women mini-marathon in June, spread the word!
If any of you have been through ectopics or know of women who have and are interested in contacting us please do so at this email address

info@ectopicireland.ie

It has been my experience and that of the girls I've talked to, that the worse aspect of EP is the feeling of loneliness, the lack of information and at times the dismissive approach of doctors that do not recognise an EP ("it's such a rare occurence....you are just miscarrying...) just to be rushed to theatre to save your life a few hours later.
Please support us.

Bovinda

Hi Bovinda,

I think you're amazing to set this up, I found there really was so little available after I had an ectopic 2008.  For me but probably more so for my husband it was probably the scariest thing in the world being rushed off to theatre, not knowing or understanding how serious things were.  My consultant was away so I had to have full surgery they couldn't do keyhole surgery and the recovery period was 12 weeks.  The first few weeks were the hardest of my life and I honestly pray that no other person would have to go through that.

You really are amazing to set this up to support other people.  I wish you well on your ttc journey.

Betty

Bovinda, you're an amazing lady i have to say. The very best of luck in setting up your charity, I'm sure it will be invaluable for women unlucky enough to experience what you've gone through going forward.   hug

I too think this is a great idea.  I was directed to the other Trust website for support after my ectopic in 07 so its great this is hopefully starting up.  I walked the mini marathon in June this year and would have loved to do it for this charity had i know about it ! Only found this website today, better late than never.

best of luck

Hi Bovinda
I can't imagine how hard it is to have an EP, but with you on the case, hopfully those who do suffer, will get more information, help and support while going through something so so horrible

I wish you all the luck in the world.
